Maker Movement

This week we had the opportunity to visit and interact with a number of Maker Movement specialists from around the city, both in the educational sector and private sector. This allowed for us future educators to become more known with all of the different types of activities we could implement into our classroom. I felt like this was a valuable opportunity because it opened my eyes to many different ways to achieve an UDL classroom. Of course there are going to be struggles to achieve a perfect learning environments for every student, but these types of activities allows for students to try new things, and understand how they learn the best. It is also valuable as a teacher to see how each student interacts with the different applications because it allows for valuable knowledge into how each student learns, which can be helpful in assessment later on. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in technology, or becoming a future educator. It is amazing how advanced a learning environment is becoming. We are able to engage our students in so many ways what were never possible before, I would have actually liked school a little more with some of these in my grade schooling years.

Our activity for this module was to create a screencast introducing the Maker Movement, and how some of these technologies can be implemented into the classroom. To do this task I used the web tool Quicktime because I have had some experience with it before, but also it is not challenging to use for new users. I hope you enjoy learning about the Maker Movement and how it is transforming our classrooms. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
