TPACK & Drawing Tools

TPACK is an acronym that stands for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. It was created to identify the knowledge that teachers need to teach with and through technology (tpack.org). As teachers we will need to incorporate all of these elements into our teaching methods, but every single educator will do this in a different way. Depending on the situation, course, grade level, demographic and culture will determine how we can implement TPACK into our classrooms. While there is a great push to use technology in our classes, we must not use it just for the sake of using it. We need to evaluate the tech we would like to use, make sure it is applicable for the course content, be able to give support to students as they use the technology, and make sure all students will have access to this tech in their home lives. Technology can be a major asset for a teacher as long as it is used in the proper way. Understanding when it is practical and will enhance the students learning will not only help them in their studies, but also create a better learning environment as well.

For this module we had to check out a variety of sketch apps to create our TPACK diagram (Google Drawing, draw.io, sketch.io). While I didn't find any that difficult to use, I chose to use sketch.io for my Diagram. I felt it was what would work best with my capabilities, and was giving me my desired look. I would recommend it again to anyone looking to create this type of image, but all the other ones are great options as well. This just worked for me. Definitely was a fun project to create for our EDU 210 class.

“It is important to remember that educational software, like textbooks, is only one tool in the learning process. Neither can be a substitute for well-trained teachers, leadership, and parental involvement.” - Keith Krueger
